40-year-old Ahmed Onanuga was taken into custody by the Ogun State Police Command for illegally possessing guns in the state’s Shagamu Local Government Area’s Onileowo population.
In a statement released on Sunday, Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesperson, corroborated this, revealing that during questioning, the suspect acknowledged being a member of the Eiye Confraternity.
It stated, “On January 1, 2025, at approximately 9:30 am, a report was filed stating that between August 2024 and January 2025, several items were stolen, from a yard, eight beams valued at N400,000, 338 bags of bolt and nuts valued at N15,379,000 and eight vertical brackets valued at N280,000, a total value of N16,059,000.
“The complainant stated that he strongly suspects one Ahmed Onanuga, 40-year-old, civilian security attached to the Savitec Company. On the strength of these allegations, we swiftly drafted a team of detectives led by W/ASP Omoregied Charity to the scene. After examining the scene, the team proceeded to Onile Village via Danco petrol station area where the said Ahmed Onanuga was arrested.
“A search warrant was carried out at the suspect’s residence, resulting in the recovery of the following items: one English pump action, one double barrel gun, one live cartridge, two cutlasses, one large plier, and one small knife. During interrogation, the suspect denied the theft allegations but admitted to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity,” Odutola added.
According to Odutola, the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta would take up the case.
