At the Onitsha Bridgehead Drug Market, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) made the shocking announcement that they had discovered illegal narcotics hidden within plumbing materials shops.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the agency’s X account, two trailer loads of “unregistered narcotics, banned tramadol, and counterfeit drugs hidden in these shops” were confiscated.

The anti-drug agency announced in a statement released on Saturday on their X handle that their search had been intelligence-led and had turned up substantial quantities of illegal drugs.

After an incident three years ago when NAFDAC officials and police personnel were attacked during a similar search, the operation was carried out with heightened security measures.

The exercise uncovered billions of naira in illegal pharmaceuticals.

The agency stated the National Security Adviser helped the operation succeed.

“Without the support of the National Security Adviser (NSA), the progress made in this operation would not have been possible.

“The ongoing exercise has so far led to the discovery of illicit drugs worth billions of naira.”
