The Association of Labour Veterans and Trade Union Assembly has urged Nigerians to adopt a more constructive approach when engaging with the government, recognizing the administration’s efforts to address economic challenges. Comrade Isa Tijjani, former National Vice President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), emphasized the importance of respectful dialogue over aggressive rhetoric.
Tijjani stated, “What is good for the goose is also good for the gander! At the beginning of this administration, prices of food stuff rose high and cries and complaints of hunger pervaded the air across Nigeria.
It was complaint upon complaint and the government kept begging citizens for patience that things will soon change. Now the efforts of the President and his aides have worked assiduously and prices have drastically gone down.”
He further noted, “I am yet to hear the word of thank you and appreciation to the President and his aides. To energies and make them do more work for the benefit of the country’s appreciation is crucial. We want to urge Nigerians to distinguish between constructive criticism and hatred.
Take it or leave it. Today the President of the country is Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to advise him in a humble and respectful manner will be better than fire and brimstone. You can gain more by constructive engagement than by threats and name callings.”
The association also condemned the recent killings in Edo State, describing them as cowardly acts meant to incite unrest. Tijjani added, “The despicable act of murder as committed in Edo is not only an act of cowardice but intended to generate bad blood and set the country on fire. To this end, an action taken by both the President and the Governor of Edo is welcome. We hope and look forward to bringing the perpetrators of this crime to justice.”
Tijjani concluded by advising members to attend the General Executive Council meeting to approve and disseminate the association’s positions. He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and elected personalities for their efforts.
