Liverpool are set to make Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong the first acquisition of the Arne Slot era, activating the right wing-back’s £29.5 million release clause. The 23-year-old Dutch international has expressed his desire to join the Reds, reuniting with Netherlands teammates Ryan Gravenberch, Virgil van Dijk, and Cody Gakpo.

Frimpong has agreed to a five-year contract, with a medical scheduled in the coming days. The move comes as Liverpool prepare for Trent Alexander-Arnold’s expected departure to Real Madrid.

Frimpong, a standout performer in Leverkusen’s historic unbeaten Bundesliga title-winning campaign last season, contributed nine goals and seven assists in 31 league games under Xabi Alonso. This season, he has added five goals and five assists in the German top flight.

A former Manchester City academy player, Frimpong rose to prominence at Celtic, winning a domestic treble in 2019-20 before joining Leverkusen in January 2021. He has since earned 12 caps for the Netherlands and established himself as one of Europe’s most dynamic defenders.

Liverpool remain active in the transfer market, with interest in Bournemouth’s left-back Milos Kerkez and a new centre-back after missing out on Dean Huijsen, who is set to join Real Madrid for £50 million. The club also aims to sign a centre-forward, with Darwin Nunez tipped to leave.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have secured right-back Conor Bradley with a new contract until 2029.
