AC Milan have announced the reappointment of Massimiliano Allegri as head coach, marking a return for the 57-year-old Italian tactician who previously led the club from June 2010 to January 2014. Allegri replaces Sergio Conceicao, who was sacked on Thursday after a brief six-month tenure with the Rossoneri.
The club issued a statement saying, “AC Milan extends a warm welcome and best wishes to Massimiliano and his staff as they take the reins once more.”
Milan endured a challenging 2024-25 season, finishing eighth in Serie A and falling to Bologna in the Coppa Italia final, a result that excludes them from European competition next season. The club’s last Serie A title, their 19th, came in 2021-22 under Stefano Pioli.
Allegri’s first stint with Milan was highlighted by a Scudetto triumph in 2010-11, the club’s first since 2004, before his departure in 2014. He then enjoyed a successful five-year spell at Juventus from 2014 to 2019, securing five consecutive Serie A titles and reaching two Champions League finals, both ending in defeat. After parting ways with Juventus by mutual consent, Allegri returned to the Turin club from 2021 to 2024, though with less success.
Prior to Milan, Allegri managed clubs including Aglianese, SPAL, Grosseto, Sassuolo, and Cagliari. Fans now hope the experienced coach can revive the fortunes of the seven-time European champions.
