As endorsements and appeals continue to mount, urging him to seek re-election in 2027, the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, has stated that he will first seek divine direction before making any decisions concerning his political future.

Governor Otti made this known over the weekend at a grand civic reception held at Sam Ihesiulor Stadium in Okpuala Ngwa. The event was organized by the Oha Isiala Ngwa People from Isiala Ngwa North and South local government areas to express their appreciation for the governor’s performance, particularly his administration’s projects within their communities.

In his remarks, Governor Otti expressed deep gratitude for the recognition and support shown by the people, but noted that his priority remains on delivering quality governance and fulfilling the responsibilities of his current mandate.

“Just as 2023 was placed in the hands of God, 2027 will equally be entrusted to Him,” the governor declared. “I appreciate your support and take your encouragement as an endorsement of what has been achieved so far. However, I will return to consult with God, and in due course, my decision will be made public.”

Addressing the rationale behind his administration’s focus on infrastructural development in Aba, the commercial nerve centre of the state, Governor Otti explained that revitalizing Aba is a strategic move to boost internally generated revenue (IGR), which will, in turn, support the development of other regions across Abia.

“Aba holds a strategic position, not only for Abia but for the entire South East and South-South. Our concentration on Aba stems from its potential to generate revenue that can be reinvested in other parts of the state,” he explained.

He reiterated his commitment to inclusive and balanced governance, assuring citizens that all parts of Abia State would benefit from his administration’s development agenda. He noted that projects are ongoing simultaneously across the state, in line with his promise of equitable development.

On infrastructure, the governor announced that the Mgboko–Ntigha road project will be completed by December 2025, setting a clear deadline for its delivery.

Governor Otti also addressed the location of the proposed Abia Airport, clarifying that its siting in Nsulu was based solely on technical feasibility rather than political considerations. He disclosed that all affected landowners have been fully compensated.

“We’re not merely building an airport — we’re creating an airport city,” the governor said. “The development will include a three or four-star hotel, shopping plazas, markets, and a Nigerian Air Force base. It is a long-term investment that will serve as an economic hub for the state.”

He further clarified that 100% compensation has been paid to all landowners whose properties were affected by the project. “If anyone claims not to have received payment, it may be due to incorrect account details or disputes involving multiple claimants over the same parcel of land,” he explained.

During the event, the governor welcomed defectors from other political parties, including former members of the PDP and Accord Party, as well as members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), who publicly declared their allegiance to the Labour Party.

In recognition of the significance of the occasion and to further demonstrate his commitment to youth and sports development, Governor Otti announced plans to upgrade the Sam Ihesiulor Stadium in Okpuala Ngwa to a standard facility. He directed the Commissioners for Works and Youth & Sports to immediately commence the planning and implementation process.

He thanked the people of Isiala Ngwa for their unwavering support and reiterated his commitment to an inclusive, people-centered administration that prioritizes development and progress for all residents of Abia State.
