The Nasarawa State Police Command, in a coordinated effort with other security agencies and local vigilante groups, has successfully rescued the traditional ruler of Dari community, known as the Sangarin Dari, who was abducted by suspected bandits from his palace in Kokona Local Government Area on May 28, 2025.
This was confirmed in an official statement released on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Ramhan Nansel, in Lafia, the state capital. According to the statement, the monarch was rescued unhurt at approximately 9:00 p.m. on June 2, 2025, following an intensive and strategic operation carried out by the Command’s search and rescue team.
“The successful rescue operation occurred in the Panwasa Mountain region near Mada Station, where the abductors had taken the monarch. It was the result of sustained pressure and intelligence-led efforts by our operatives,” the statement read.
Following his rescue, the traditional ruler was immediately taken to a medical facility for thorough evaluation to ensure his well-being. He has since been reunited with his family, bringing a sense of relief and celebration to the local community and beyond.
While the operation ended without harm to the victim, the police assured the public that intensive manhunt efforts are underway to track down and apprehend the suspects, who fled the scene during the operation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, expressed his profound gratitude to members of the public for their vigilance, cooperation, and timely sharing of intelligence, which he said were critical in facilitating the successful outcome of the operation.
“We deeply appreciate the active support of the public, whose valuable information and cooperation played a key role. Our gratitude also extends to sister security agencies and local vigilante units whose contributions were instrumental to this rescue mission,” CP Mohammed stated.
He reiterated the commitment of the Nasarawa State Police Command to safeguarding lives and property across the state and assured residents that security agencies remain on high alert to tackle threats such as kidnapping and banditry.
“We will continue to work tirelessly with our partners to ensure criminals have no safe haven in Nasarawa State,” he added.
The rescue of the Sangarin Dari marks a significant win in the fight against criminal elements targeting traditional institutions and rural communities in the region.
