Controversial influencer Andrew Tate has been apprehended for speeding in Romania, driving at 196km/h in a 50km/h zone. The incident occurred in the village of Bujoreni, approximately 184km from Bucharest, the Romanian capital. Tate received a fine of £310 ($420) and has his driving license suspended for 120 days due to the severity of the offense.
This is not Tate’s first instance of reckless driving. In April 2021, he was stopped near Bucharest for driving a Porsche at 138km/h. Additionally, he received a speeding fine in Germany in 2020. Tate is known for showcasing his collection of sports cars, including Bugattis and Lamborghinis, on social media.
Tate and his brother Tristan are currently facing charges, including rape and human trafficking, in Romania. They deny any wrongdoing and are allowed to travel within Romania subject to court-ordered conditions. British prosecutors have stated that the brothers will return to the UK to face 21 criminal charges once proceedings in Romania conclude. In the US, they face a separate civil lawsuit alleging coercion into sex work.
Tate has expressed admiration for Romania’s system, stating, “I escaped the Western world by moving to Romania, where corruption is accessible to everybody.” He also said, “If corruption exists, which it does, let us all play.” These comments reflect his views on the country’s perceived corruption and his self-proclaimed status as part of an “elite club” of successful individuals.
The Romanian authorities have taken a firm stance on speeding, emphasizing that excessive speed remains one of the leading causes of road deaths in the country. This latest incident adds to Tate’s history of traffic infractions and ongoing legal battles, sparking discussions about accountability and the rule of law.
