Italian midfielder Jorginho has signed with Brazilian powerhouse Flamengo following his departure from Arsenal, the Premier League club confirmed.

The 33-year-old, whose contract with the Gunners was set to expire on June 30, reached a mutual agreement with Arsenal to terminate his deal early, paving the way for his move to the Brazilian Serie A side.

Flamengo announced Jorginho’s arrival on Friday, just in time for their preparations for the FIFA Club World Cup, which kicks off on June 14 in the United States.

Born in Brazil but representing Italy internationally, Jorginho brings a wealth of experience to Flamengo. His illustrious career includes a decorated stint at Chelsea, where he joined from Napoli in 2018.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, Jorginho lifted the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup, establishing himself as a reliable and composed midfielder. In January 2023, he made the switch to Arsenal, where he made 78 appearances, contributing to the club’s midfield stability.

Arsenal released a statement expressing gratitude for Jorginho’s contributions: “Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Jorgi for his dedication and professionalism. We wish him and his family all the best for the future.”

The move to Flamengo marks a homecoming of sorts for the Brazil-born star, who now aims to make an impact in his native country’s top flight.

Flamengo, known for their passionate fanbase and competitive edge, are banking on Jorginho’s experience to bolster their squad for the Club World Cup and beyond.

Fans eagerly await his debut as the club targets global success. With his proven track record, Jorginho is poised to play a pivotal role in Flamengo’s ambitions on the international stage.
