Tech billionaire Elon Musk has deleted a social media post alleging that US President Donald Trump is featured in unreleased government files related to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. The explosive claim was made during a public feud between Musk and Trump, which began after Musk described a spending bill as an “abomination” that could define Trump’s second term in office.
“Time to drop the really big bomb: (Trump) is in the Epstein files,” Musk posted on his social media platform, X. “That is the real reason they have not been made public.” However, Musk provided no evidence to support his claim and didn’t specify which files he was referring to. He later doubled down on the claim, stating, “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out”.
The Trump administration has acknowledged reviewing tens of thousands of documents related to Epstein’s crimes, which some claim could implicate public figures. Although Trump was named in a trove of depositions and statements linked to Epstein unsealed in early 2024, he has not been accused of any wrongdoing.
It’s worth noting that Trump and Epstein were acquaintances, with Trump describing Epstein as a “terrific guy” in the early 2000s. Trump has denied spending time on Little Saint James, Epstein’s private island in the US Virgin Islands, where prosecutors alleged Epstein trafficked underage girls for sex.
The public spat between Musk and Trump escalated rapidly, with Trump hitting back at Musk in an Oval Office diatribe. However, both parties appeared to inch back from the brink on Friday, with Trump wishing Musk well and Musk responding in kind. Despite this, the White House denied reports that the two would engage in talks.
Elon Musk’s deletion of the post claiming Donald Trump’s involvement in the Jeffrey Epstein files has sparked speculation about a possible truce between the two billionaires. Musk initially posted, “Time to drop the really big bomb: Donald Trump is in the Epstein files.
That is the real reason they have not been made public,” but later removed it without providing any evidence. The move comes after days of escalating tension between Musk and Trump, fueling rumors of backchannel diplomacy to cool down their feud. Additionally, Musk had shared a video of Trump and Epstein socializing, which was also deleted.
