Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that Israel’s attacks on his country could not have materialized without the agreement and support of the United States. During a news conference in Tehran, Araghchi emphasized that Iran has “well-documented and solid evidence” of American involvement, citing US President Donald Trump’s public confirmation of knowledge about the attacks. “Therefore, the US, in our opinion, is a partner in these attacks and must accept its responsibility,” Araghchi said.
The top diplomat expressed skepticism about Washington’s claims of non-involvement, pointing to evidence contradicting these assertions. He urged the US government to clearly condemn the attack on nuclear facilities, emphasizing that such actions are condemned under international law. “This act is condemned under international law, and our expectation is that the US government, in order to prove its good faith regarding nuclear weapons, will condemn the attack on a peaceful nuclear facility and distance itself from this conflict,” Araghchi added.
Araghchi described the Israeli attacks, which targeted residential and military areas across Iran, as a “major strategic mistake” that could drag other nations into the war. The strikes have resulted in at least 80 deaths, including civilians, top-ranking commanders, nuclear scientists, and university professors. In response, Iran has launched retaliatory attacks on Israel’s Tel Aviv and Haifa, using hundreds of missiles and drones, causing at least 10 deaths and dozens of injuries.
The conflict has led to significant disruptions in Iran, with all flights cancelled until further notice and government workers instructed to work remotely. The Tehran Stock Exchange was closed on Sunday, and the Iranian rial has depreciated against the US dollar. Araghchi emphasized that Tehran is willing to stop its attacks if Israel halts its aggression, calling on the international community to intervene and condemn Israel’s actions.
