The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), has taken decisive action against environmental misconduct by sealing off a residential building located at No. 59 Ajoke Okusanya Street, off Ago Palace Way in Okota.
The enforcement operation, which took place on Saturday, June 14, 2025, followed the discovery that the property was discharging untreated sewage directly from its septic tank into the public drainage system.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who confirmed the development, strongly condemned the action of the property owners.
He described it as a clear case of environmental abuse and a serious threat to public health. According to him, such practices not only contaminate the environment but also expose residents to the risk of waterborne diseases and other health hazards.
Wahab emphasized that the Lagos State Government remains fully committed to promoting environmental sanity and safeguarding public health. He reiterated that individuals or organizations found engaging in illegal waste disposal would face the full wrath of the law.
The commissioner further assured the public that similar enforcement exercises will continue across the state to deter others and maintain a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment.
In line with its environmental protection mandate, the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources has vowed not to tolerate acts that endanger the ecosystem and public well-being.
The government urged all residents to adhere strictly to proper waste management practices and warned that erring properties would not be spared.
