The National Sports Commission (NSC) has hailed Joshua Aiyenuro Babatunde, popularly known as Tjosh, for setting a new global record for the longest professional hairdressing marathon.
The remarkable feat, which took place at the velodrome of the Abuja National Stadium, concluded on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, after an exhausting but triumphant effort that began on June 10.

Tjosh’s record-breaking marathon captivated the nation, drawing praise from top dignitaries, including NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade, who visited the venue to offer their support.
In a statement, Chairman Dikko lauded Tjosh’s accomplishment, describing it as a shining example of the determination that defines Nigeria’s youthful population. “I am not surprised by this latest feat from a Nigerian youth. Our young people are the most resilient, dogged, and hardworking in the world,” Dikko said.
He further commended Tjosh for elevating Nigeria’s reputation as a global leader in innovation and creativity, noting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration remains committed to empowering the nation’s youth.
Hon. Bukola Olopade, a vocal advocate for youth development, described Tjosh as a “history maker” whose achievement will inspire more Nigerian youths to pursue groundbreaking innovations. Recalling Tjosh’s visit to his office to discuss the marathon, Olopade said, “I saw a young man who was focused and determined to carve his own path to greatness. That’s why we approved the use of the velodrome, and today, we are thrilled he accomplished his goal.”
Tjosh’s marathon has not only set a new benchmark in the creative industry but also highlighted the potential of Nigeria’s youth to achieve global recognition through dedication and ingenuity.
