Sokoto state remains open to engaging in peace talks with any group of armed individuals who demonstrate sincere willingness to surrender and reintegrate into society peacefully
The Sokoto State Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to promoting peace, ensuring the safety of lives and property, and fostering long-term security across the state.
The government has also expressed its readiness to engage in constructive dialogue with armed groups that are willing to lay down their arms and embrace peace.
In an official statement issued by Colonel Ahmed Usman (Rtd), the Special Adviser on Security to Governor Ahmed Aliyu, the administration highlighted the critical role that negotiation plays in resolving conflicts.
According to the statement, history has shown that many long-standing conflicts across the world were not resolved by force alone, but through genuine dialogue and reconciliation efforts.
“The state remains open to engaging in peace talks with any group of armed individuals who demonstrate sincere willingness to surrender and reintegrate into society peacefully,” the statement emphasized.
Furthermore, the Sokoto State Government extended its appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the nation’s service chiefs, security commanders, and frontline security personnel for their tireless efforts in protecting the lives and property of Nigerians, particularly within the Northwest region.
“Their sacrifices are deeply appreciated. May Allah bless the souls of our fallen heroes and bring comfort to their bereaved families,” the statement read.
In line with ongoing federal initiatives to address insecurity, the state government also commended the Federal Government’s proposal to deploy forest guards across volatile areas.
However, it underscored the need for transparency, community trust, and merit-based recruitment in the selection of these personnel. It recommended that forest guards should be recruited through a process that reflects the values of honesty and local acceptance.
The government stressed that any forest guards deployed must operate strictly under the supervision of conventional security agencies to ensure accountability, discipline, and coordination.
It also called for the establishment of effective communication channels between the forest guards and the communities they are meant to serve.
“Clear and consistent communication with local communities is essential in building trust, fostering cooperation, and ensuring the success of security operations,” the statement added.
Ultimately, the Sokoto State Government reaffirmed its full support for all efforts and policies aimed at establishing lasting peace throughout the state.
It assured citizens that the present administration will continue to prioritize the protection of lives and property and that no resources will be spared in its pursuit of a secure and stable society.
