Police Laud Resident’s Bravery as Viral Video Aids Kidnap Investigation

The Anambra State Police Command has applauded the courageous act of a vigilant resident in Awka who risked personal safety to record and share a video capturing an apparent kidnapping incident. The footage, now circulating widely on social media, has become a critical tool in ongoing police investigations and rescue operations.

According to a statement issued on Saturday, June 28, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the video was recorded in the early hours of Friday, June 27. It shows three armed men operating in a stainless-coloured Toyota Highlander SUV with no number plate. The assailants are seen firing gunshots indiscriminately before forcibly abducting an unidentified victim.

Ikenga revealed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the resident’s boldness, describing the action as a prime example of community participation in combating crime. “This brave act is greatly aiding our ongoing rescue mission and could ultimately help save the life of the kidnapped victim,” the commissioner noted.

The command emphasized that the footage is being used to gather vital evidence, identify the suspects, and ensure those behind the heinous act are brought to justice. Police authorities are leveraging the video to support their operational and intelligence efforts.

In a related development, the command also reported the tragic recovery of the corpse of Mr. Chido Ozor, who was kidnapped on June 19 from his piggery farm located in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area. Despite efforts to track down the suspects, police discovered his body on June 23 near the same farm.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to thoroughly investigating these incidents and called on the public to assist security agencies by providing credible and timely information. The command reiterated that community cooperation remains a powerful tool in the fight against criminal activities in the state.
