A 73-year-old Israeli citizen, Mr. Avi Warshaviak, has been confirmed dead following a sudden medical emergency while lodging at the Corinthia Villa Hotel in the Garki district of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. The unfortunate incident occurred on the morning of Saturday, June 28, 2025.
Mr. Warshaviak was reportedly in Nigeria on a visit and was staying at the hotel alongside his wife. According to reports, he suddenly developed severe health complications at approximately 9:51 a.m. Staff at the hotel responded swiftly by rushing him to the Asokoro General Hospital in Abuja. Unfortunately, despite efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead upon arrival by medical personnel.
Security analyst, Zagazola Makama, who shared details of the incident, stated that the case was formally reported to the police by the hotel’s Chief Security Officer, Mr. Okorie Emmanuel. “The Chief Security Officer of the hotel, Okorie Emmanuel, reported the case to the Garki Divisional Police Headquarters at about 11:23 a.m.,” Makama noted.
Following the official report, officers from the Garki Divisional Police Headquarters visited both the hotel and the hospital to initiate an investigation. The authorities carefully examined and documented the scene of the incident to support further inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Mr. Warshaviak’s death.
After completing the initial investigation, police personnel facilitated the transfer of the deceased’s body to the hospital morgue, where an autopsy is expected to be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Meanwhile, sources within the FCT Police Command have disclosed that efforts are currently ongoing to establish contact with the Israeli Embassy in Nigeria.
The embassy will be responsible for handling the necessary consular and diplomatic procedures relating to the deceased, including notifications to his home country and arrangements for the repatriation of his remains if required.
At the time of this report, no foul play has been suspected, but authorities await the outcome of the post-mortem examination for a conclusive determination.
