Marc Marquez delivered a masterful performance at the Dutch MotoGP, claiming victory at the Grand Prix and extending his championship lead to 68 points over his brother Alex Marquez.
The elder Marquez seized control on the second lap and maintained his dominance throughout the race, crossing the finish line 0.6 seconds ahead of Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi.
The race took a dramatic turn for Alex Marquez, who suffered a severe crash on lap six, fracturing his left hand in the process. The incident occurred when Marquez lost his balance after making contact with KTM’s Pedro Acosta while battling for fourth place.
He was immediately taken to the medical center, where the extent of his injuries was confirmed. Marquez will undergo surgery in Madrid later on Sunday, with further updates on his recovery expected on Monday.
Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi secured second place, while Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia claimed third, despite initially taking the lead early in the race.
Bagnaia had won the last three races in Assen but struggled to maintain his pace, ultimately finishing 126 points behind his teammate Marc Marquez in the championship standings.
Marc Marquez’s victory marked his sixth win of the season and 68th career MotoGP win, putting him on par with motorcycle legend Giacomo Agostini.
Marquez now sets his sights on surpassing Valentino Rossi’s record of 89 wins. Despite crashing twice on Friday, Marquez demonstrated exceptional skill and control, managing his tires effectively to maintain his lead.
The MotoGP calendar will take a brief hiatus before reconvening for the German Grand Prix in two weeks. Marquez’s dominant performance has solidified his position as a top contender in the championship, while his brother Alex will need to regroup and recover from his injuries.
