There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments.

The Presidency has officially refuted widespread rumours suggesting the replacement of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, with Hadiza Bala Usman, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination.

The clarification was made in a formal statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. He categorically described the report as false, misleading, and a fabrication intended to sow confusion.

According to the false claims trending across various media platforms, Senator Akume was said to have been appointed as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), replacing Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who purportedly resigned from the position. The same report alleged that Hadiza Bala Usman had been appointed as the new SGF.

In response, the Presidency released a four-paragraph statement titled “Akume Remains SGF”, firmly denying any such changes within the administration. The statement emphasized that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments or reshuffles in government positions.

The Presidency also reiterated its commitment to transparency and urged the public to rely solely on verified sources for information concerning government affairs.

It reads, “There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments.

“The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it.

“The Presidency advises Nigerians to disregard the fake news.”
