London is about to witness a spectacular celebration of Nigeria’s cultural wealth as organizers gear up for “Nigeria Week,” a weeklong showcase of music, art, food, and commerce scheduled to take place from July 21 to 27, 2025. Designed to bridge cultural gaps, promote tourism, and strengthen diplomatic and economic ties, the event promises a vibrant immersion into the heart of Nigerian identity.
Announced at a press briefing in Abuja, the organizing committee revealed that the festival will unfold across multiple locations in London, including the Nigerian High Commission, city cultural centres, and pop-up venues. The event will feature live music performances, film screenings, culinary exhibitions, art installations, and diaspora business forums.
Themed “One Culture, One People,” Nigeria Week 2025 is being hosted in partnership with the Nigerian High Commission in the UK, the Ministry of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, the Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), and several UK-based Nigerian cultural associations.
According to Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of NiDCOM, “This is not just a festival—it’s a bold statement about Nigeria’s soft power. Our culture is our export, and events like this position Nigeria as a global brand.”
Minister of Culture Hannatu Musa Musawa emphasized that Nigeria Week aligns with President Tinubu’s cultural diplomacy strategy and the broader goal of leveraging creative industries for economic diversification.
The program will include:
Afrobeats & Highlife concerts featuring top Nigerian acts
Film and literary panels highlighting Nollywood and African storytelling
Nigerian food fairs showcasing signature dishes like jollof rice, suya, and akara
Visual art exhibitions from both emerging and legendary Nigerian artists
Business and investment forums targeting creative industry partnerships
A special “Nigerian Creatives in the Diaspora” forum will also celebrate the contributions of UK-based Nigerian talents in fashion, design, music, and tech.
The event has drawn endorsements from influential cultural figures and stakeholders, including filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, fashion mogul Lisa Folawiyo, and chef Imoteda Aladekomo, who will also host a masterclass at the Nigeria Food Pavilion.
Organizers expect over 10,000 attendees, including dignitaries, international investors, art collectors, and Nigerian-British celebrities. The festival will conclude with a gala night celebrating Nigeria’s global creative achievements.
