Tragedy struck in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, as a 23-year-old petrol station attendant, identified as Grace Godwin, was abducted and brutally killed by suspected ‘one chance’ kidnappers.

Her lifeless body was discovered on the morning of Saturday, July 12, 2025, dumped along Abubakar Street, off Alex Ekwueme Street in the Jabi area of the FCT.

Confirming the incident, Comrade Adanu Andrew, President of the Voice of Apa and Agatu Initiative for Development, revealed that the deceased hailed from Ekaida in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.

He expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of Grace, whom he described as a disciplined and cultured young woman, contrary to rumours circulating on social media.

Andrew firmly dismissed the speculations suggesting that Grace had gone out for a hookup, clarifying that she was abducted by the suspected kidnappers while returning home from work on Friday, July 11.

He lamented that Grace’s unfortunate encounter with the criminals had nothing to do with any immoral activity, as some misleading social media posts implied.

“The general public is hereby informed that the lifeless body of a young woman was found on Abubakar Street, off Alex Ekwueme Street in Jabi-Abuja this morning. Contrary to a misleading Facebook post, she did not go for a hookup,” Andrew stated in a post.

He further disclosed that the kidnappers had contacted Grace’s family and demanded a ransom of one million naira. Sadly, while the family was mobilizing resources to secure her release, the news of her death surfaced online. The family, already distressed, was on their way to meet the abductors when they saw the heart-wrenching news on Facebook.

Andrew expressed grief over the untimely death of Grace, describing her as a hardworking and virtuous individual who was only striving to earn an honest living. He condemned the evil and senseless acts of criminals who prey on innocent citizens for financial gains.

“Grace was a well-disciplined and cultured young lady who worked diligently to sustain herself. It is disheartening that she fell victim to the cruelty of individuals who seek to make money by all means, even if it costs human lives. May God grant her eternal rest and give her family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” he added.

This incident has further highlighted the growing security concerns within the FCT, particularly the menace of ‘one chance’ criminals who continue to terrorize residents, exploiting public transport as a trap for unsuspecting victims.
