The Arewa Youth Assembly (AYA) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing his passing as a monumental loss not just for Northern Nigeria, but for the entire country.

In a statement released in Kaduna by its Speaker, Muhammad Salihu Danlami, the group extolled Buhari as a “leader, mentor, and the pride of Northern Nigeria,” saying his death marked the end of an era of integrity-driven leadership.

“We have lost an irreplaceable figure. He was the most accomplished Northerner in terms of positions held, integrity, charisma, and fear of God,” Danlami said.

The youth leader recalled Buhari’s legacy as a retired military general, former Head of State, and two-term democratically elected president. According to him, Buhari stood out among Northern leaders for his honesty, discipline, and dedication to national service.

“Buhari was not just a Northern leader; he was a symbol of national unity and a strong advocate for fairness. His record remains unmatched,” Danlami added.

The AYA Speaker noted that Buhari’s administration fulfilled over 75% of its campaign promises, especially in fighting insecurity, battling corruption, and improving infrastructure.

“Life was much easier under his presidency,” Danlami claimed. “He worked tirelessly to reduce poverty, tackle terrorism, and initiate reforms that changed the lives of ordinary Nigerians. His commitment to the masses will never be forgotten.”

Buhari, who died in London at the age of 83, was widely respected for his anti-corruption stance and conservative approach to governance. His administration was credited with major infrastructure projects, agricultural reforms, and the strengthening of Nigeria’s security architecture, despite persistent challenges.

Offering prayers for Buhari’s soul, the youth group said, “We pray Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings here on earth and grants him Jannatul Firdaus. Rest well, Baba, till we meet to part no more.”

Danlami urged Northern youths to emulate Buhari’s qualities of integrity, selfless service, and commitment to the nation’s unity.

Buhari’s death has continued to elicit tributes from political leaders, traditional rulers, and international allies. Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and other prominent figures are expected to attend his burial in Daura, Katsina State, later today.

President Bola Tinubu, who received Buhari’s remains at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Airport in Katsina earlier in the day, described him as “a statesman whose legacy of discipline and patriotism will continue to inspire generations.”

Buhari will be laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites in his hometown, Daura, amid massive security presence and crowds of mourners who have thronged the town to pay their final respects.

As tributes continue, the Arewa Youth Assembly emphasized that Buhari’s legacy will remain a reference point for good governance and leadership rooted in honesty.

“Buhari may be gone, but his name will continue to resonate whenever the history of Nigeria’s development and fight against corruption is told,” Danlami concluded.
