Mourning Premier League Champions Liverpool FC have opened books of condolence in memory of Portuguese forward Diogo Jota and his brother, André Silva, following their tragic deaths in a road accident in Zamora, northern Spain.
In a statement released on Thursday via its official website, the club confirmed that both physical and digital books have been made available for supporters and members of the public to pay their respects and celebrate the lives of the late two brothers.
“The physical book of condolence has been placed at the Anfield Road Stand reception area at Anfield, with designated hours set for public access over the coming days. For international supporters and those unable to attend in person, an online version has also been launched, allowing fans from around the world to share heartfelt messages and memories.” The statement read.
“As well as the books of condolence, flags have been lowered to half-mast at Anfield,” the club said. “In a further mark of respect, all club stores, museums, and stadium tours have been closed and are expected to remain shut until Monday, July 7.”
The club also revealed that well-being and mental health support has been made available to staff and players deeply affected by the loss.
Jota, who joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020, had become a fan favourite at Anfield, known for his clinical finishing and relentless work ethic. His sudden passing, alongside his brother André, has shocked the football community and prompted an outpouring of grief and tributes from fans, former teammates, footballers, and clubs across the globe.
Liverpool FC continues to lead the tributes, honouring not only Jota’s contribution on the pitch but also the close bond he shared with his family and the profound impact he had on the club and its supporters.
