The trophy was revealed during a special ceremony held on Wednesday night in Casablanca, hosted by CAF in partnership with long-time sponsor TotalEnergies.
Described as a “powerful symbol of the rise and recognition of women’s football across the African continent,” CAF said the new trophy represents more than just a reward for victory—it embodies equality, unity, empowerment, and excellence.
“We are drawing direct inspiration from the iconic Men’s TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations trophy,” the CAF statement read.
“The launch of the new trophy forms part of CAF leadership’s goal of developing and growing women’s football in Africa and making African women’s football amongst the best in the world.”
Symbolic Design
The new WAFCON trophy features a striking floral design, with identical petals spiralling upward, each one symbolising a participating national team. The petals converge into a golden sphere, designed to resemble a football, subtly patterned and adorned with a gold map of Africa, reflecting the continent’s ambition, pride, and global impact in the women’s game.
Crafted in brilliant silver and matte gold, the body of the trophy is wrapped in a gold ring engraved with the CAF logo, reaffirming CAF’s commitment to advancing women’s football across its 54 member associations.
The base of the trophy is a pristine white marble pedestal accentuated with elegant gold stripes and engraved with the name of the competition in refined matte gold lettering, establishing it as a lasting symbol in African sporting history.
A Beacon of Inspiration
CAF emphasized that beyond its artistic appeal, the trophy will serve as a beacon of aspiration for millions of young girls across Africa.
“It is a celebration of growth, empowerment, and beauty. The new WAFCON trophy will inspire the next generation to dream, to believe, and to achieve on the global stage,” CAF added.
The unveiling comes as anticipation builds for WAFCON 2024, which will see the continent’s top women’s national teams compete for glory and the honour of lifting this newly designed silverware in Morocco.
