Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has publicly criticised the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over the substandard accommodation provided for players for the highly anticipated 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

In an Instagram story posted on Thursday evening, the 25-year-old midfielder shared a photo of her assigned room — which featured two small beds in a cramped space — and voiced her disappointment over the conditions, calling them unbefitting for a premier continental tournament.

“Two professional women players in this kitchen-size room in a prestigious (WAFCON) @caf_online @cafwomenfootball — you can do better,” she wrote alongside the image.

Ajibade’s post has sparked conversations across social media, with fans and pundits questioning the level of preparation and commitment CAF has made towards ensuring proper welfare and standards at Africa’s flagship women’s tournament.

The Super Falcons, nine-time champions and the most successful team in WAFCON history, arrived in Casablanca last Thursday where they defeated the Black Queen’s of Ghana 3-1 on Sunday.

Prior to their arrival in Morroco, The Super falcons had traveled to Lisbon, Portugal for a short training camp where they played a goalless draw in an high profile friendly against the Portuguese women’s national team to fine tune their preparations for the biggest women’s football showdown in Africa starting this weekend.

Nigeria will kick off their Group C campaign on Sunday against Tunisia at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, before facing Botswana and Algeria in their remaining group-stage fixtures.

As women’s football continues to grow across the continent, the call for better infrastructure, planning, and respect for female athletes is expected to grow louder — especially from leaders like Ajibade, who now captains one of the continent’s most iconic teams.

Ahead of the tournament, the Super Falcons launched their ‘Mission X’ campaign — a bold pursuit of a record-extending 10th WAFCON title. However, Ajibade’s revelation has raised concerns about the overall player experience at the tournament.
