Spanish authorities have launched a formal investigation into Barcelona star Lamine Yamal’s controversial 18th birthday celebration, amid accusations of discriminatory entertainment practices and inappropriate hiring standards.

Yamal, widely regarded as one of the brightest young talents in world football, celebrated his milestone birthday on July 13, with an extravagant mafia-themed party attended by around 200 guests, including friends, family members, and teammates.

However, the celebration has sparked public outrage and legal scrutiny following allegations that people with dwarfism were hired as entertainment and that women with specific breast measurements were paid to attend the event.

Government and Advocacy Groups Respond

The Spanish government has condemned the event and is now pushing for a full investigation and a potential fine of up to €1 million (£867,000). According to Marca, the country’s General Director of Disability, Jesús Martín, has called on ministers to approve sanctions against those involved.

“We are concerned that people with money and power believe themselves to be above the law. The law applies to everyone—the humble and the powerful alike,” Martín said.

He also expressed concern about the potential influence of Yamal’s actions on young fans, warning that such displays send the wrong message about respect and equality.

Disability Association Threatens Legal Action

The Association of People with Achondroplasia and Other Skeletal Dysplasias with Dwarfism (ADEE), a member of Spain’s Confederation of People with Physical and Organic Disabilities, was among the first to publicly condemn the celebration.

In a strong statement, the organisation announced plans to pursue legal and social action, claiming the party violated both existing anti-discrimination laws and fundamental ethical standards.

“The ADEE condemns and publicly denounces the hiring of people with dwarfism as part of the entertainment at the recent 18th birthday party of soccer player Lamine Yamal,” the statement read.

“These actions not only breach legal norms but also compromise the dignity of people with disabilities and the values of a society that aims to be egalitarian and respectful.”

Model’s Allegations Add to Backlash

Social media influencer Claudia Calvo also alleged that a group of 12 women were specifically selected based on their breast size to attend the event—claims that have added fuel to an already growing controversy.

As of now, neither Yamal nor his representatives have issued a public response to the allegations or the government’s move for disciplinary action.

The incident casts a shadow over what should have been a celebratory moment in the career of a rising football star—and raises wider questions about ethics, celebrity influence, and responsibility in public life.
